Contribution to the Show

The unique, signature sound of Portcullis can be heard with their track, The King's Return, in our Competition & Feedback Show, SP20 as well as the amazing Beltane in our Spring Equinox Holiday Special for 2011, SP23.

Biography

We first performed at Herstmonceux Medieval Festival UK in 2001 with some other local musicians. We met lots of interesting people, and quickly developed a passion for re-enacting as Medieval Minstrels/Troubadours. In 2003 we formed Portcullis, and Jason began to put our CD together, which was released in 2004.

We have performed at Englands Medieval Festival  at Herstomonceux castle for nine years, and have entertained at weddings, banquets and garden parties.

Some of the instruments Jason plays include:
Mandola, mandolin, Bazouki (mando/cello) and drums.
Susie sings and plays recorders.
Haydon is our full time drummer, and at 12 years old does a fantastic job.

Our music and costume has an Arthurian feel to it, and  relates to 13th/14th century England. The music conjures magical imagery of banqueting and celebration. It has colorful eastern tones, yet portrays medieval England at its finest. It also contains a contemporary twist using rock based tribal rhythms. Enter the realm and become enchanted with the visions bestowed upon thee!
